Key Issues Facing Atoka
- Healthcare: Zero urgent care facilities for 10,600 residents. Limited dental (satellite office, 3 days/week). No mental health provider.
- Childcare: Only 75 licensed slots for an estimated 550 children under 5 after Rising Stars closed.
- Education: Atoka Elementary excels, but after 5th grade students enter a district ranked 100th of 140 in Tennessee. No library branch.
- Senior Services: No senior center, no Meals on Wheels, no public transit.
- Infrastructure: 198% population growth since 2000, but the town functions as a bedroom community with a 32-minute average commute.
- OnTrack 2042: Atoka's 20-year comprehensive plan was adopted in 2023, but the Industrial Development Board created to execute it has recruited zero businesses in three years.
